You could also just link to the DIST directory and let that webserver provide the list of files rather than having to keep the list of old releases up to date. --Jason 10:25, 30 May 2006 (EDT)

By May 17, 2007, in Feisty Fawn, just 'sudo apt-get install python-biopython' will install biopython-1.42. biopython-1.42 does not support Bio.SeqIO.parse().

  • Questions like this will probably be answered faster if you post them to the BioPython mail list. --Cjfields 16:04, 23 May 2007 (EDT)

The page still lists Numerical Python as required. As of the May 31, 2007 cvs head it seems to be optional. Cariaso 20:12, 31 May 2007 (EDT)

In modern linux distributions it's quite easy to install Biopython without admin privileges using virtualenv. The sequence of commands to use in the directory where you'd like to install biopython then looks like: (note that this must be run from a directory that does not include spaces in the full path)

python .
source bin/activate
pip install numpy
pip install Biopython

That sequence of five commands seems simple and reliable enough for beginners to follow - should that be moved into the main Downloads page / the installation instructions? Krithin Sitaram 04:01, 26 September 2012 (UTC)
